everybody loves a belgian festival...
July 23

hot hot hot hot hot

long time no see.
it's difficult to blog when all that's going on in life is sitting about in the sun and messing about and drinking and things. good fun though.
storm last night was wicked - i love storms. we went outside and danced about in it and got soaked.

leaving for kenya in 1 week and 1 day. exciting!

off now to enjoy sun, it's too hot to type!
July 14

supercomputer

just read line ups for pukkelpop and dour festival this summer. dammit they are good.
you say party! we say die!, iforward russia!, 65daysofstatic, futureheads, dead 60s, the dears, regina spektor, zero 7, broken social scene, coldcut, dj shadow, zita swoon, belle+sebastian, beck, and also radiohead.
and that's just pukkelpop.

blurgh i had yellow fever injection.

sleeeepy.
July 08

mario party

am feeling strangely hungover in a very dull sort of way. urgh so tired.
karaoke = success.
was awesome.
drank most of caz's parents' gin that they said we could have.

finally beat alexis on 'atomic', and came dangerously close to beating steve on 'tricky'! caz is still best singer, by miles, although i beat him on one or two songs i think. kings of leon, franz and gwen stefani were truly my own though. haha.

als and i challenged caz and steve on mariokart double dash, and mario tennis also wins. turns out i suck monumentally at mario party though, something in my brain won't click into silly gmaes about fishing for treasure or shooting the right colour balloons. who knew a game designed for children would keep four 21yr olds so happy for so long though.

and, thom has poss found a house for us next year. so nice.
July 06

"pitstop"

haha so sailed across the lake in tervuren park today.steve and caz in a blow up boat made for children - amusant.

paddling pool is still fun, although feels like it's going to storm now, so who knows what entertainment tomorrow will have to offer. old school game console night tonight though, in preparation for dancemat extravaganza. caz's parents want us to finish up some of the stuff in the spirits cupboard (yes please) so his free house this weekend could get messy.

just found out that karaoke game we have has kings of leon on it - i am so in there, those guys aren't going to know what hit them! haha. also, the karaoke cd and the dancemat game both have 'my favourite game' by the cardigans on them, so we're going to  have a double whammy in which you have to dance and sing at the same time - just like britney spears(steve's comparison, not mine)!

p.s. cars was ace, go see it. i heart pixar.
July 05

family swim centre fun

urgh so tired... didn't get to sleep until 5 last night, due to overly hot room. was so tempted to go sleep on the trampoline but thought better of it... might have frightened caz's dad. haha.
but, in more exciting news - we got a family swim centre! wowee! which is actually a paddling pool and only cost us 8.75euros each, bargain. although i feel i haven't gotten full use out of it yet due to lack of swim stuff. so instead my dress just got increasingly more see-through as i was sprayed by the sprinkler.. ah but it was lovely.
shame the weather isn't better today, i'm going to start taking my bikini everywhere though, paddling pool is sweeeet.
maybe we should organise some kind of pool party! ha yes good plan.
poor old alexis is missing out on all the fun though as he is at work - upsetting!

eye infection still hasn't cleared - saw doctor and it will take 2 more weeks. shitty.

going to see cars today - pixar yay!

July 04

we've been walking barefoot..

woohoo back in belg - have been here for a week now and had an ace time.
not including monstrous eye infection that left me blind for a few days - steve was my driver and guide dog, and took me to doctors. i had to sit in a darkened room for a couple of days which sucked as the weather was amazing, but eyes are on the mend now. still can't read perfectly, but i'm sure that will come.
it was over werchter weekend as well, was going to go meet up with people and go for a couple of days, but oh well. at least i have my sight back - small consolation haha.
been playing tennis and sitting in the park - has been lovely! as well as the usual drinking at my house.
got trip to diest, canoeing, playing poker, tennis, trampolining, and karaoke/dance mat session planned for the next couple of weeks.. sweetz0r.
anyway better go have to go out in a bit. not sure if i can be arsed to cycle to caz's or not... may just see if anyone wants to be so kind as to give me a lift.

boygirl

wowee haven't written in almost 2 weeks!
lots has happened, although mostly parties and things.
i had my haircut - v.exciting. has led to a host of new nicknames (boy-girl etc.) as it's v.short on one side and still long on the other. haha.

went to lancaster - was lots of fun. watched football, played football, made a big bonfire, drank, met dan's housemates, etctetc. would add photos but this thing is broken so instead have put them on facebook.

woke up at 2 oclock today with not much to do. it's raining heavily - score. even though bbc says it's supposed to be sunny all day. they lie! how can they expect to get the forecast right when they can't even look out of the window and write the current weather down right?

going to cornwall on thursday with thomas - weather is supposed to pick up then. exciting! staying in falmouth, and maybe chilling with some family.

then have a whole week the week after of doing nothing as it is after the end of term and everyone's going home and i am staying for pip's party, but he's going to the lakes with his house for that week so i am all alone in nottingham. woe!

need to think of somethings to do... hmmm.
June 01

pinch punch

exams are over - huzzah!

the last one went really well, turns out it was easy and also the questions in it were pretty straightforward. yay!
haven't been up to too much since then - saturday i played basketball and thomas broke his finger - we went to hospital and everything! he's very injury prone.
than on sunday was the great dot-to-dot festival! it was ace; our stall kind of sucked, but the bands were good and it was a lovely day! we made about £200 on the stall, which was way better than we thought, although most of it was me and rosie! haha oh well.
buck65 was my highlight... really really good. we had snuck in perry which was fun as well so spent the day quite drunken, and was knackered by about 12. haha useless.
monday and tuesday thom took the days off and we had fun, chilled in town and faffed about really. bought an awesome red leather golf club bag thing which thom and i are going to have in our flat next year as an umbrella stand. even though we don't actually really own any umbrellas. haha oh well, it was only £12 from the mencap shop and it's coooool.
yesterday was tiggy's birthday - was in the shop in the afternoon and then went to theirs for stir fry dinner - yumyum! then to stone where we were all quite merry and had fun. was a good evening, although they played the music too loud to hear anyone. why do they do that? it was so loud! and it's just a bar, not a bar and dance place. it was gay ass, and my throat hurts this morning.
anyway i am soon going to sir john to meet up with tiggy for cake and beer (sticky toffee pudding mmmmm) so i should go and get dressed.
claire's play is tonight - exciting!
and lunch with tiggy's family and then drinks with sven and then girls' party tomorrow - party season has begun!
and - exciiiiiting - i got my red patent shoes to finally feel comfy so i can wear them now without having to have been drinking beforehand - bonus!

everything's coming up milhouse.
May 25

amateur hour

urgh i have left it too late to revise for this exam!! it's on saturday at 9am, and i started revising properly today and i was told it was easy and it blatantly isn't. balls.

oh well.

also - go to dvd.co.uk and sign up to their dvd rental service and then cancel it and you'll get a £20 voucher to spend on dvds. it's true. i promise. i think i am going to get either green wing series 1, the mighty boosh series 1 and 2 or davina's exercise dvds. i don't know what it is about davina but i do find her so fuzzy and warm making. i wish she was my aunt, or my very older sister. or i wonder if the it crowd has come out on dvd yet? that would be ace. chairman wow.

i was supposed to work for 2 hours tonight before big brother but i've done about 8 minutes so far and i'm 51mins into my first hour.
dammit.

the only good thing about this entire module is that fact that we do box-cox tests in it. haha. don't ask me what they are, i don't know. i just know i'm supposed to know.

oh well, beeston fun this saturday and dot to dot on sunday and tiggy's birthday on wednesday and claire's play on thursday and girls' party on friday and summer party on saturday and chris's bbq on monday and caz's bbq on tuesday and cornwall after that to keep me going. that should be about enough.

anyway better get back to work, amd now 55mins through the first hour. ace.
May 24

i could work for heat magazine

went proper swimming yesterday for the first time in aaaages. was so fun! weirdly, the only thing aching today is my neck, but that might just have been the pillows i slept on last night. i figured out that i can go swimming 13.3 times before i lose money from not having joined the sports centre this year.

on monday i also took the day off because i couldn't really face working. i went into town and got wet and popped in to say hello to all and sundry in the shop and ended up buying a coat (seasonal...). then i went and bought a dress, a bag, a ring, some knickers and some tights. it was fun. i also nearly bought a cardi but didn't as it was expenisive for what it was and i liked the dress more.

and when i was in topshop, sienna miller was in there. i saw some uber-trend skinny girl wandering about and thought she looked a bit weird and then the shop assistants were talking on their radio majiggers and turns out it was sienna miller. i don't think it was because (a) why is she in nottingham? and (b) why would she be in topshop? but that makes it a worse story so let's ignore that.

so that was exciting.

thomas and i have booked a viewing for an apartment on friday for next year, although we will only get it if we can start renting in august. it's so so nice. a duplex in a converted old hospital (nicer than it sounds) with huge windows and an ace kitchen and living room right in the centre of nottingham. you can get a lot for your money in nottingham if you only want a 1 bedroom place. can't wait!

i'm so glad i'm not living in bloody lenton next year, i'm fed up of it. i could live in the centre of nottingham in a super nice apartment near the shops and bars and i don't have to be scared walking around by myself late at night because there's always people around, or i could pay the same rent and live in lenton and hear gunshots going off in the night and be kept awake by police helicopters. ha. i know what i'd rather do.

lenton is a total waste of money - bring on city living!
May 22

exam period aches and pains

well, i have broken the back of this exam period. only one left, on saturday, which is my maths exam and so should be fine.
i'm feeling pretty tired.
my back hurts from crouching over my desk all day.
going to get a massage next week though - aahhhhh...
anyway better get some work done. time is of the essence and all that.

May 17

masaai adventures

well, well, well. have an exams in 5 hrs approx.and i'm just not feeling worried about it. just can't get the fear like usual. i'm distracted and not really concentrating. it would be different if i felt like i was going to ace this module, but i'm just not. it's hard. i'll do okay in it, prob in the 60s, but only if the right questions come up (globalisation, growth and lending to developing countries is my speciality). should have done more reading possiblement.

but - aaaamaaaaaaaziinnnglyy... i had a bit of a crisis last week when the organisation i was supposed to be going to tanzania with closed down - nightmare. so i wrote to the people organising it and asked to switch to going to kenya instead, and they replied and accepted me on the program today!!

i'm going to be living with masaai tribes!! for a month! it's going to be possibly the best best best thing ever. i'm going to be teaching, and also helping distribute food drops to other neighbouring masaai villages to help with the famine appeal.

i'm living with a host family in one of the villages, i can't wait.

i'm not going to be on the coast like i was in tanzania which is a bit of a shame, but living with the masaai tribe is going to be so exciting! can't wait for summer..

i should get back to work...

220 pages of fun

well, i'm suppsed to be working, but i've already finished one module today, don't want to rush into finishing the other too much.

i also finished macro yesterday!! it's an epic module, of incredible proportions that would astound any non-economist. it's my great american novel. maybe. anyway, i wrote approx 80+30 pages, which is 160+60 sides, so 220 pages of notes for a 20 credit module. so 11 pages for every credit. considering it's usually 3 pages for every credit, that's a lot.

but it is the hardest module ever, and now i probably wont fail it. which is a bonus. unfortunately this means that the time i spent on that has left my other modules rather neglected but they are only 10 crediters so not so important.

haven't been up to much really though recently. say mi:3 on sunday, and confetti on wednesday. both quite good. had rosie's birthday on friday - pizza express yumyum. went to steve's on thursday, and went to the hotel on tuesday for drinks.

haven't been into the shop for ages ages ages, looking forward to next wednesday when i can go back in.

in other news, my lip piercing has healed over (parents will be pleased) afer i took it out overnight and then forgot to put it back in and then it healed. dammit. was my 20th b'day present from tiggy, rosie, kez, amy and cindy which is a shame.

piercings are such fair weather friends. tattoos on the other hand are friends forever. ah.
May 12

john milton keynes

john maynard keynes is starting to piss me off quite seriously. if he hadn't written that bloody 'general theory of employment interest and money' my life would be a lot easier around exam times. in fact i would pretty much nothing to do. economics would be a nice easy qualitative discipline.

either that or i wish i was doing this course in 1935 before it he wrote that book.

but you know, it is true, JMK is a hero. i should set up a group on facebook of that exact name. although i think we have more than enough economics groups already...

it's funny because the next coolest economist i can think of after john m keynes is milton friedman. together they make up milton keynes, which i can't help but think is where they got the name for milton keynes from. is that true? i don't know.

i'll look it up on wikipedia. here we go:

  • Contrary to (allegedly) popular misconception, Milton Keynes was not named after the poet John Milton nor the economists Milton Friedman and John Maynard Keynes (indeed "Keynes" in the latter is pronounced1 "kay", not "key"), but after a village of the same name that already existed on the site of the proposed New City. The suffix 'village' was added creating the name Milton Keynes Village in 1991, to distinguish it from the larger city. The name Milton Keynes and its similarity to the names of the famous economists Milton Friedman and John Maynard Keynes has often led to various silly jokes. Once on the television show Yes, Prime Minister, when the PM Jim Hacker mentioned Milton Keynes, the person to whom he was speaking mentioned how Milton Keynes was an economist and the intellectual leader of the Freedmen.

well. there we go. pffff. would be better if it was.

    depressions and slumps

urgh i am just so bored bored bored of revision - i've worked so hard i want to stop now! part of me wishes these exams were tomorrow instead of next week. but the other half is panicking constantly about not being prepared enough. although i think i should be by wednesday.

it's the macro that's killing me, but the globalisation is doing a good job of assisting it. growth should be okay. hopefully money will be easy-ish...

    who knows.

the lecture i am on at the moment in macro is called 'depressions and slumps' ha ha ha. not funny. i want to finish it this afternoon but i'm not sure if i can muster the energy.

oh well, i'm finished in 16 days - holiday times they are a-coming. wowee am i looking forward to that.

back to mr. blanchard and his joy of a textbook. ace.
